Area of
Intrest & Research:
NUMERICAL STUDY OF NEAR FIELD EARTHQUAKE
EFFECTS ON DAMS
PROLOGUE
India is a country with around 4500 dams.
These include several small, moderate and large dams. Many of
them that were built in highly seismic areas are prone to the
occurrence of severe earthquakes. The distress caused in many
dams by fault displacement, slope failure, piping, tensile
failure, permanent deformation etc., makes it necessary to
review the behavior of the dam in seismic environment.
Objective:
For the study of behavior of dam in near
fault region, the objective of the research work goes with
Evaluating the complete stress distribution
in dam body, determining the dynamic response of dam and
foundation.
Giving the input ground motion to estimate
the motion on surface.
Estimating the amplification at ground &
at top of dam body.
Applying the water load on dam and direct
earthquake loading.
Non-linear analysis for dams resting on
buried faults
